With just a couple of days until the Springboks run out in Nelspruit, anticipation is building for a classic clash of styles against a formidable Georgian team. This weekend’s Test marks the return of Siya Kolisi as captain for the first time this season, but the big question is how a revamped Bok side will handle the notorious power of the “Lelos.”
Earlier this week, Director of Rugby Rassie Erasmus sat down with the media to unveil his team and, more importantly, explain the specific strategy for countering the Georgian threat.
He confirmed the team was thrilled to have their captain back, stating, “We wanted to make sure that Siya is 100% fit before selecting him, so it’s great to have him back in the squad”.
However, the main focus was on the immense physical challenge that awaits. Erasmus was candid about what to expect from the opposition. “Georgia are a tough outfit, and they pride themselves on their physicality and brute force in the collisions, so the set pieces, mauls, and breakdowns will be key areas”.
So how has Rassie prepared the Boks for this specific challenge, which includes starting three uncapped players in the front row?
In his press conference, the coach laid out his game plan in fascinating detail. To get the full picture and hear the tactics directly from the man himself ahead of Saturday’s game, watch the clip below.
